WHOIS Facts
Aggregated registration facts from 6,916,446 WHOIS records collected across our domain intelligence platform — who registers domains, when they were registered and when they expire. Aggregates only: we publish registrar and registration data, never registrant contact details.
What we have collected so far
Records collected per day
WHOIS and RDAP responses stored over the last 30 days — the pace at which this dataset grows.
Top registrars by domains in our dataset
Share of all collected WHOIS records. Registrar spellings are grouped (e.g. “Namecheap, Inc.” and “NAMECHEAP INC” count once); variants that differ in words (e.g. “GoDaddy” vs “GoDaddy.com LLC”) are merged only through an explicit curated list — never by automatic fuzzy matching. The table lists the top 500 of 4,804.
| # | Registrar | Domains | Share of dataset |
|---|---|---|---|
| All 4,804 registrars · top 500 listed | 6,916,446 | 100% | |

Records expiring soon
Based on 6,769,215 records that carry an expiry date. The windows are cumulative (30 days sit inside 90, which sits inside 12 months), so they do not add up to 100%. Counts are for records collected so far, not live registry data.
Which TLDs we have the most WHOIS records for
All 3,237 TLDs with WHOIS records. Each row links to the full domain list for that TLD; RDAP shows the share of that TLD's records collected over RDAP, coverage the share of our domain index that has a WHOIS record. Counts are WHOIS records per TLD, not domains per TLD.
| # | TLD | WHOIS records | Share of dataset | RDAP | Coverage |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All 3,237 TLDs | 6,916,446 | 100% | 50.3% | 1.89% | |
How these numbers are produced
Where does this data come from?
Our crawler collects WHOIS and RDAP responses for domains discovered through ICANN zone files and web crawling. Each response is stored once per domain, then this page summarises the stored records. Statistics are recomputed periodically, so figures lag the raw collection by up to the refresh interval.
Why is coverage of the whole database only 1.89%?
The platform tracks every domain we discover (365,464,734), but WHOIS collection is rate-limited by registry rules and prioritised by TLD, so only a subset has been queried. Coverage grows with every collection run — and it is uneven per TLD: the table above reflects what we have collected, not how many domains exist.
How clean is the data?
362 records carry a registration date before 1990 and 200 a future date; both are excluded from the year chart and counted here instead of being dropped silently. 105,859 records name no registrar, and 510,501 point to domains no longer in our index, so they are counted in the totals but not bucketed by TLD.
Do you publish registrant contact details?
No. Registrant, admin, tech and billing contact details (emails, phone numbers, postal addresses) are deliberately excluded from this page and are not exposed publicly. Only non-personal registration facts — registrar, dates, name servers, status and TLD — are summarised here.
What is the difference between RDAP and WHOIS?
RDAP is the structured, HTTPS-based successor to the WHOIS protocol. We try RDAP first because responses are machine-parseable and respect rate-limit headers, and fall back to classic WHOIS text parsing when RDAP is unavailable for a TLD.
Are these numbers live?
No. They are aggregates over records collected to date, refreshed on a schedule. The timestamp at the top of the page shows when the aggregates were last rebuilt and when the most recent WHOIS record was collected.
A WHOIS lookup by domain may come later.
